Skylanders Trap Team is finally out in the wild. The game has been released in America and Australia, and will soon be jumping over to Europe and the UK on Friday. But is it a great game? Andy from Family Gamer TV has been playing Trap Team and checking out all the amazing figures to find out what’s new, what’s good, what’s not-so-good, and if you should buy it. Here’s his video review.

Once again Skylanders brings a massive amount of new toys to the game with Trap Team. This new game introduces two unique types of figure: the big Trap Masters and the tiny Minis. Both work in the game as great characters, and offer something new for playing as toys. The Trap Masters have amazing designs with really cool Traptanium weapons that shine like crystals, and the Minis are cute little creatures. The look and feel of these figures have never been better, and they really are the star of the show for Trap Team.

The game itself is very similar to other Skylanders games, so if you’ve played and loved Spyro’s Adventures, Giants, and Swap Force, then you know exactly what kind of game you’re in for. It would have been nice to have seen something new in the game, especially since Disney Infinity has great new experiences like the Play Sets and the Toy Box, but the game still feels enjoyable and has a great story. Being able to trap the villains of the game is a cool touch that means you get to see the story from both the sides of the good guys and bad guys.

The starter pack is great value as it comes with the new Portal of Power which you need to hold your villains in, two traps, a Trap Master and a core Skylander. This means you can do almost everything in the game without buying new things. It could get expensive to do everything as you’d need to buy traps for every element and Trap Masters of every element to get into special areas, but you can complete the game with just the Starter Pack. Andy recommends completing the game with Snap Shot and Food Fight first, and then buying some new figures later to get into the special areas.

Overall, Trap Team is a great new Skylanders experience, but the toys are much more interesting than the game itself.

The Skylanders Trap Team release date is October 10th on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii, Wii U, 3DS, and tablets. If you’re not up to date on everything about Trap Team, check out the Skylanders channel for amazing screenshots and gameplay videos, and subscribe to Family Gamer TV on YouTube.
